Orb of Creation Mental Resources

Understand Knowledge, Thaumaturgy, Psi, Scholar upgrades, Scholar's Book crafting, and every mental resource capacity source in Orb of Creation v0.6 beta.

Mental resources are the scholarly backbone of Orb of Creation. Before you can advance spells, unlock Flow, or open the alchemy tree, you need Knowledge, Thaumaturgy, and eventually Psi flowing at scale. In the v0.6 beta branch, capacity on these stats matters more than ever: generation speed is useless if your bar fills in seconds and you cannot afford the next research node.

Core Mental Resources

Knowledge is the first mental resource you encounter. It comes from the Gather Knowledge spell and early Magic upgrades like Wizardry and Improved Wizardry. Thaumaturgy unlocks deeper spellcraft, augment tables, and the research paths that eventually lead to Learn Flow and alchemy. Psi appears later through psionic spells and Scholar research, powering advanced study upgrades and conceptualization trees.

Each mental resource has its own capacity bar independent from mana or energy. Hover or click the resource icon in your inventory panel to open a full breakdown of every upgrade, structure, and research node contributing to that cap. This panel is the single most important diagnostic tool when progression stalls.

  • Knowledge: Primary research currency for Magic and Scholar trees
  • Thaumaturgy: Spellcraft depth, augment systems, and mid-game gates
  • Psi: Psionic power, Focus Aura chains, and late Scholar concepts
  • Skill: Workshop craftsmanship stat tied to Artificer progression

Scholar's Book and Workshop Structures

The Scholar's Book is crafted in the Workshop under Structures and is one of the earliest reliable sources of base Knowledge capacity. Each book you build permanently raises how much Knowledge you can hold at once. In v0.6 beta, players who skip Scholar's Books early hit a wall where Gather Knowledge fills the bar instantly but expensive nodes like Learn Flow remain unaffordable.

Pair Scholar's Books with Memory structures built in the World tab under Space. Memory increases base Knowledge capacity separately from books, stacking additively with other sources. Expert Scholar research in the World tree adds another large chunk. These three sources form the early-game mental capacity trinity every player should prioritize.

Notes, Magic Notes, and Group Capacity

Notes crafted in Workshop Artificer increase mental resource group capacity. Magic Notes specifically boost magic-category mental stats including Knowledge when it is classified under the magic mental group. These items are easy to overlook because they do not show up in the basic Gather Knowledge tooltip chain, but they multiply how far overflow bursts carry you.

Group Cap attributes from equipment, artifacts, and dimensional upgrades apply to entire resource families rather than individual stats. When evaluating whether to buy another Scholar's Book versus a Notes craft, check which source your capacity breakdown lists as the current bottleneck. Sometimes one Magic Notes purchase unlocks more total purchasing power than three individual book crafts.

Mental Resource Progression in v0.6 Beta

The v0.6 beta branch shifted progression so capacity upgrades drive advancement instead of passive waiting. Community feedback consistently notes that Learn Flow requires substantial Knowledge and thousands of Thaumic Scrolls, making mental capacity planning essential before you even see Flow or Control on your resource bar.

Focus one mental resource at a time during early sessions. Run Gather Knowledge with conjure-boosting augments on your spell bar, craft Scholar's Books when the bar fills, and use overflow from active spellcasting to purchase upgrades above your displayed cap. This snowball technique applies to every resource tab in the game, but mental stats are where most players first learn it.

Knowledge, Thaumaturgy, Psi, and related scholar-track stats are mental resources. They gate spell advancement, research books, and many Workshop upgrades. Click any resource icon to see its capacity breakdown.
How do I increase Knowledge capacity early?
Craft Scholar's Books in Workshop Structures, build Memory in World Space, and unlock Expert Scholar in research. Notes and Magic Notes from the Artificer also raise mental group capacity.
Why am I stuck at low Knowledge in v0.6 beta?
v0.6 reworked capacity formulas so caps matter more than raw generation speed. Raise capacity before chasing expensive upgrades, and use overflow bursts to buy purchases above your normal cap.
